Three memorable days at Shrewsbury School - November 18-20 2013

The stunning grounds of Shrewsbury School
When I received a call to spend three days with the brass players at Shrewsbury School I was delighted!
Not only does the school have a great music department under the care of Director of Music, John Moore, it has an excellent tradition of brass playing and performance.

The music department is a thriving concern with many engagements and performances throughout the year. Shrewsbury School also has a busy professional concert series and the musicians at the school are exposed to some high level concerts.

During my three days at the school I had the pleasure of meeting and hearing all the brass players and it was particularly enjoyable to spend some individual time with the trumpeters. The focus was definitely on exam preparation so with many different levels at the school I think we just about covered most of the pieces in the examination syllabus!

In addition to individual lessons there are many chamber ensembles working throughout the school so I had the opportunity to coach the junior and senior trumpet quartets, junior and senior brass quintets, a brass dectet and a very enthusiastic and lively Big Band!

The beautiful environment at Shrewsbury School, with its spacious grounds and calm atmosphere, is the perfect place for the students to work and socialise. It also has a superb sporting tradition with state-of-the-art facilities.

I'm looking forward to returning to the school between August 18-22 2014 when we hold our second English Brass Academy courses for Brass & Percussion alongside the Grade 5 Theory course. If you would like to know more about these course please click the link below:
