Coaching

Paul Archibald coaching at the Royal College
Paul has coached at London's conservatoires for most of his professional career and during that time has worked with many talented players, many of whom are now in orchestras and ensembles throughout the world.

Paul also works with professional players on specific performing projects and gives technical advice and guidance if required. His experience in brass ensemble performance, as a member of the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble and his own group, the English Brass Ensemble, enables Paul to work with ensembles on all aspects of chamber music performance, particularly repertoire and programme planning.

He has developed his own method, an ongoing series of books entitled Breathe! which forms the basis of his teaching. This method is now used by many students and professionals and is a systematic approach to practice and performance techniques. He has also arranged studies and repertoire pieces that are incorporated in his system to compliment the existing repertoire for the instrument.
Studies are an essential tool for developing a personal musical style and for improving range and stamina. Here is a selection of contrasting study books that are useful for developing musical awareness and technical ability.
