Beside Tiananmen Square. |
China is still, for most people, a place that is full of mystery, an enigma, a country steeped in history, a vibrant world economy and yet we still know little about the place and it's people. This is a wonderful opportunity for me to visit this great country and to perform in many of its cities during my two week tour. Juliet Edwards (piano) and I will be flying in to Hong Kong on April 11 and then taking a short coach journey across the border to the first port of call in Guangzhou. The climate here is subtropical throughout the year so it'll be great to have some good weather at last! After a couple of days here we move on to Foshan for a concert in the Foshan Theatre and the following day we're driven to Zhongshan for a performance in Zhongshan Concert Hall. Unfortunately, we then leave this beautiful climate as we fly north to Shenzchen and the climate drops a good ten degrees!
On April 17 and 18 we're giving a workshop and concert in the International Convention Centre and then moving onto Huangzhou on April 20. April 21 sees us in Shanghai where we will be performing at the opening ceremony of a new music school and then a recital in the evening. Another drop in temperature, so we are now about the same climate as the UK (oh dear!), as we move to Tianjin for a recital on April 22 followed by the final recital in Beijing at the Peking University hall on April 23. This should be a wonderful experience and a great opportunity to meet Chinese musicians. I'll be writing a full report when I return so I'll let you know how the tour goes with, hopefully, some great photos! |
