After
a thoroughly bad start, Paul's trip with The London Philharmonic
turned into a triumph for both the orchestra and for Paul.
On arrival in Prague, the container full of instruments
had disappeared, apparently on its way to Vienna. Some frantic
phone calls ensued, leading eventually to a deal with the local
symphony orchestra to borrow their instruments in exchange for
doing their washing at the launderette.
The stage turned out to be in the process of decoration
so we were forced to wear sou'westers as paint dripped from above.
With numerous cd recordings to his credit, Paul has experience
of all the classical trumpet repertoire.
An enthusiastic teacher, many of his students are
now performing in orchestras and ensembles throughout the world.
He has held professorships at the Royal Academy of Music, Guildhall
School of Music and Drama and the London College of Music and
is currently teaching at the Royal College of Music and the Welsh
College of Music and Drama.
To say that Paul is a renaissance man is understatement
to an extreme degree, when the roll call of history is made, the
question will be Leonardo who?
