The Night Trumpeter
Cecilia McDowall
This work is destined to become a classic of the repertoire. The contrasting movements are superbly written and result in a substantial and powerful work and a must for all trumpeters.

... Power of Dreams • Kirchener's Ear

"...It had a lasting impression on me...a superbly atmospheric piece and leaves the audience, even on first listening, wanting to revisit it again to delve deeper into its many musical facets...the evocative music seemed to strike a chord with all present. Originally written for Paul Archibald and Kathron Sturrock, it is not easy for either trumpet player or pianist, but is very much for the advanced pupil, being as demanding technically as it is musically and requiring a great deal of maturity to perform well. The performer will require a very sound technique and the patience to persevere with its musical shapes and complexities. Having said that, it is a work to watch out for as I have a feeling it will find itself into the mainstream trumpet repertoire before too long - and a welcome arrival it will be....was delighted to see that Brass Wind Publications has continued its support of new works by living composers and taken up the challenge and published it."

The British Composer Awards 2005 were presented by the British Academy of Composers and Songwriters in association with BBC Radio 3 and sponsored by the Performing Right Society. Cecilia McDowall was shortlisted in two categories, her motet Regina Caeli in the Liturgical section, which was performed by the BBC Singers, and the large-scale setting of Stabat Mater for the 'Making Music' Award. Making Music is the body which represents hundreds of amateur choirs, orchestras and music clubs throughout the United Kingdom.

Three Antiphons
Cecilia McDowall
Three Antiphons for trumpet and organ are adaptations of Latin motets for unaccompanied choir, commissioned originally by Janet and Douglas Mackay for the Canterbury Chamber Choir and first performed in Faversham, Kent, in April 2004. Regina Caeli, as a motet, was nominated for the Liturgical section in the British Composer Awards, December, 2005 and was performed by the BBC Singers. The re-scoring for this combination was made for Paul Archibald and Leslie Pearson and first performed at the Yoxford Festival in 2004.

... Ave Regina • Ave Maria • Regina Caeli

..."The three texts I chose for the choral motets address the Virgin Mary. The first movement, Ave Regina, is a gentle and lyrical response to the 'Queen of the heavens . . . from whom the light came into the world.' The Ave Maria, originally written for upper voices, is more intimate in expression with a plainchant like muted opening. In contrast, the final movement, Regina Caeli, is robust and exultant. Each chordal passage (an Alleluia in the motet) punctuates the linear writing of the 'verses' which make use of the plainchant footprints of the Regina Caeli itself. Three Antiphons have also been arranged for trumpet ensemble and organ and have been recorded in this version by the International Celebrity Trumpet Ensemble for the Brass Classics label. The motets are published by OUP."

Wedding Music
Philip White
Includes free CD - Scored for Trumpet and Organ/Piano

Choosing the right music for a wedding is as important as all the other arrangements that have to be made. There is, of course, a lot of music to choose from and it is not always easy making the right choice without either a little expert advice on the subject or an opportunity to listen to what is available in advance.

The popular marches and voluntaries associated with the marriage service have provided countless millions of couples with an enjoyable repertoire for many years. These wonderful tunes, some of which are included in this collection, are tried and trusted and will continue to be an important part of the marriage service. However, this publication seeks to extend the repertoire further with some new and distinctive voluntaries arranged for trumpet and organ, always such a nice combination for a wedding service. It also includes some 'interludes' which can be played when the bride and groom take their leave to sign the register. Please note that the Processional and Recessional voluntaries listed within are easily interchangeable.

In addition to the written music, this publication contains a CD of all voluntaries and interludes which will enable brides and grooms to make an informed choice. Importantly, for those not marrying in church, these pieces, if played on a hi-fi system, will allow the usual formalities to be observed in a venue unlikely to contain an organ.
